UFC 193 live blog: Stefan Struve vs. Jared Rosholt

This is the UFC 193 live blog for Stefan Struve vs. Jared Rosholt, a heavyweight bout at Saturday night's UFC event at the  Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.

Struve, who has won three of his past five fights, will face Rosholt, who has won four of his past five fights, on the main card.

Round 1: Here we go. Heavyweight fight to kick off the UFC 193 main card. The referee for this one is Herb Dean. They touch gloves. Struve towering over Rosholt. Odd to look at. A prolonged recon session here, and Rosholt finally tries to deploy a leg kick. Struve casually stalks forward, and he push kicks at Rosholt. Another leg kick from Rosholt, and it didn't do much. Now Struve comes in and Rosholt unleashes a nice right hand on the closure. Crowd already antsy, lets up a chorus of boos. Fights barely two minutes old. Another leg kick from Rosholt. Now as Struve goes in a for a wide leg kick, Rosholt ducks under and tackles Struve near the center of the Octagon. His coach, Marc Laimon, is screaming his enthusiasm. Roshold now pressing his knee on Struve's stomach, and he's trying to get some ground and pound. He stands up, and looks for re-entry, as Struve looks for the upkick. Now he dives back in, and Struve clinches his legs to trap Rosholt's right leg. Still, Rosholt leaning his hulk on Struve, who is flat on his back. Rosholt into side control, but so far not able to do much with it. Struve controlling Rosholt's neck, keeping him snug inside. They rotate a full 360 degrees, and Rosholt stands again. Struve looks for upkick...and again Rosholt leaps back into his guard, trying to get some G&P. Round ends there to the crowd's displeasure. MMA Fighting scores R1 for Rosholt, 10-9.

Round 2: They touch gloves again. Struve again the initiator, looking to be first, stalking forward. He lets a right hand fly, but it crashes into Rosholt's forearms. They exchange inside, and Rosholt sneaks a left through. He comes in for a body shot but finds air, as Struve — at range — slides aside. This time Rosholt does a lazy fake as if to punch and shoots in for a take down, and he ties Struve up. They go to the fence. Struve standing still, as Rosholt digs at a single leg. Can't get it. But he's on him like Velcro. They separate. Push kick from Struck, and now he lunges forward with a combination, and lands a nice uppercut. Rosholt wiped his eye, as if he might have taken a poke. They keep going, and Rosholt ducks in again, and this time dumps the skyscraper to the ground. They are scrambling, and Struve almost got a sweep — he's back on his feet, but Rosholt tackles him from the back, right on the fence. This fight is taking on a definitive feel. Rosholt is the pestle. Side control for Rosholt, yet Dean warns him to get busy — because so far he's not getting much offense on Struve. Rosholt back in guard, and he's trying to pry loose enough to land something — but the tangle of Struve's limbs are drawing him close. It's fairly stagnant, which prompts Dean to ask Rosholt to work, or he'll "stand them up." Now Struve moves out of the way of a clumsy punch and tries to sweep. Big elbows from Struve at the end, but too little too late to win that round. MMA Fighting scores R2 for Rosholt, 10-9 (20-18 overall).

Round 3: Struve has got to be frustrated; he's done virtually nothing in this fight. Leg kick from Struve, and he threatens another. Struve tentative, not wanting to leave himself vulnerable for a takedown. Jab by the tall fighter, and that lands. Now he tries to follow the lead left up with a right hand, but misses the mark. At least there's some variation, even if there's caution behind it. Big right hand there from Struve, and Rosholt blocks most of it. Leg kick from Struve, and now he misses on a pair of uppercuts. Finally Rosholt with a single attempt, and Struve able to thwart. Knee to the head there from Struve, but that doesn't prevent Rosholt from driving his body into him and trying to take him down. Can't get it done on the fence, and they break. Struve not showing a tremendous amount of urgency here, which he needs. High kick after a deke low from Struve, and it got Rosholt pretty good. He's fine. He moves in and they go to fence, but Struve able to push the attack aside. Right hand by Struve. Rosholt clearly tiring, but the fight only has a minute some to go. Big knee from Struve, and Rosholt, either from exhaustion or pain, flails for a moment. Must have been the latter, as he takes down Struve at the center of the cage. Struve back up, which doesn't please Rosholt's corner. Crowd raining boos. They tie up, and Struve takes Rosholt down with a throw. He is trying to posture up, but it's all for not. Fight's over.
