Randa Markos wanted Paige VanZant. She'll have to settle for a very tough newcomer.
Markos will meet Polish prospect Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC on FOX 17 on Dec. 19 in Orlando, it was announced Wednesday on UFC Tonight.
Markos (5-2) has not fought since beating Aisling Daly at UFC 186 in April. Before that, she fell at The Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale to Jessica Penne by split decision last December. The 30-year-old TUF alum is 2-2 in her last four fights and is ranked No. 7 among UFC women's strawweight contenders.
Kowalkiewicz (7-0) is an undefeated former Invicta FC and KSW fighter. She's coming off a split decision victory over Kalindra Faria back in February in one of the best women's MMA fights of the year. Kowalkiewicz, 29, owns a win over Mizuki Inoue in Invicta.
UFC on FOX 17 is headlined by a lightweight title fight between champion Rafael dos Anjos and Donald Cerrone. In the co-main event, Junior dos Santos meets Alistair Overeem in a heavyweight contender fight.
