Brandon Vera to face Chi Lewis-Parry for ONE Championship heavyweight title in December

Brandon Vera will finally get his title shot.

After a roller-coaster career that saw Vera climb the first hill of the UFC's heavyweight division then plummet to the bottom, the 38-year-old will fight for gold at the Dec. 11 ONE: Spirit of Champions event at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena.

Vera will face undefeated heavyweight Chi Lewis-Parry (6-0, one no-contest) for the promotion's inaugural strap.

Lewis-Parry has finished all six of his career victories, four via knockout and two via submission. His one no-contest came at ONE FC 16 after he landed an accidental groin strike to his opponent, Alain Ngalani, that forced a premature end to the bout. He later defeated Ngalani via first-round TKO at ONE FC 21.

Vera, meanwhile, will come into the title-fight showdown on the heels of an impressive first-round knockout of his own. The Filipino-American knocked out Igor Subora at ONE FC 23 in December 2014, his first victory since October 2011.

"Each year in Manila, we try to outdo ourselves by putting on increasingly exciting fight cards for passionate fight fans in the Philippines," said ONE Championship CEO Victor Cui in a statement. "In addition to the already tremendous main event bout between heavyweights Brandon Vera and Chi Lewis Parry, we are bringing back fan favorites Ana Julaton, Mark Striegl and Ruel Catalan. Get ready for an amazing night of world-class MMA action!"
