A pair of tournament reserve bouts have been finalized for World Series of Fighting 25, as LaRue Burley will take on Joe Condon and Benny Madrid will meet Ramil Mustapaev on Nov. 20 for a chance to sneak into WSOF's eight-man, one-night lightweight tournament as an injury replacement. WSOF announced the fights on Tuesday.
Similar to Bellator's recent one-night tourney, if a winning fighter is ruled medically unfit to advance into the next round of the WSOF bracket, the loser of his bout will advance instead. If neither fighters are able to be medically cleared, then one of the tournament reserve fighters would take their place.
"Our tournament lineup is officially complete with the addition of these match-ups," WSOF president Ray Sefo said in a statement. "We are looking forward to having the four talented fighters selected for these two important fights, compete on this historic card and be prepared to enter the single-elimination contest if necessary."
A 31-year-old prospect fighting out of Arizona, Burley (6-1) is most remembered for shocking NCAA champion wrestler Bubba Jenkins en route to a third-round TKO win at Bellator 100. Burley suffered the first loss of his career in his WSOF debut last month, losing via knockout in 32 seconds to tourney competitor Brian Foster.
He'll meet Condon (12-8), a well-traveled submission specialist who has split his two appearances inside the WSOF cage. Condon debuted with a guillotine finish over Jonathan Nunez, then dropped a split decision to Nick Newell at WSOF 20.
The other pairing features hometown fighter Madrid (8-3) versus Russian and Jackson-Winkeljohn prospect Mustapaev (3-1). Madrid is 1-1 in WSOF, having bounced back from a loss to Jimmy Spicuzza by submitting Jeff Fletcher in 86 seconds, while Mustapaev is making his promotional debut riding a three-fight win streak.
WSOF 25 takes place at the Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, AZ. The winner of the one-night tournament earns the right to challenge WSOF lightweight champion Justin Gaethje. An updated fight card can be seen below.
