UFC president Dana White is quick to praise any fight town which shows up and droves and pays big money for one of his events.
So you generally have to take his words with a grain of salt. But, given Saturday's UFC Fight Night 76 card in Dublin sold out in five minutes, then an enthusiastic crowd still showed up at 3Arena and made noise throughout a card which lost it's main event and co-main event, maybe White, an Irishman from Boston, means it this time.
According to UFC rep James Elliott, who oversaw the post fight press conference, White called Dublin the best fight town on the planet.
"When I was talking to Dana just after the fights," Elliott said. "He said he wanted me to let everyone to know he's traveled the world to all these shows and Dublin is without a doubt the best fight town on the planet."
All in all, Elliott was relieved, after the evening's scheduled main event of Joseph Duffy vs. Dustin Poirier was canceled a few days out, to have a successful night of fights.
It certainly has been tricky, but one of the things I'm blessed with is a fantastic team who has been doing these shows for a number of years now. I think we were all hoping that tonight was going to be as good as it was last year, and I think we can all safely say it was. What the fans have done this week have been incredible, and the fights have as well.
