Morning Report: Wanderlei Silva vows not to fight in Nevada, but wants a job working with the Nevada Athletic Commission

Wanderlei Silva is taking wins wherever he can find them.

Celebrating Nick Diaz's successful online petition calling for the review of his five-year ban by the Nevada Athletic Commission, Silva is reminding fans that he has his own issues with the NAC.

Silva was handed a lifetime ban and a $70,000 fine by the commission in September 2014 after he evaded an out-of-competition drug test in May 2014.

In May, judge Kerry Earley of the Nevada district court ruled that the NAC's suspension and fine were "in excess of the statutory authority of the agency" and ordered the matter back to the commission for a re-hearing.

"The NSAC has made so many mistake," Silva said of Diaz's case. "It shouldn't be allowed to punish someone just like that. Especially for such a long time. That practically ends a fighter's career. It's very cloudy and unclear. One guy gets one year, the other gets two years. I had to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. I'm spending a lot of money with lawyers to defend myself.

"I've never tested positive for anything. I was always a clean fighter and they want to ban me from the sport. How does that work?"

Silva says he's joining UFC flyweight Henry Cejudo in a pledge not to compete in Nevada, but the NAC has sort of already handled that for him.

Silva will appear before the NAC again during its next session on Oct. 29 for the re-hearing.

"This commission should have a professional athlete working there," said Silva. "I am available to work together with the commission to create clear laws that give the athletes the proper respect. The athletes deserve more respect."

Although it's a UFC policy being implemented through the promotion's anti-doping program run by U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), Silva is lumping the ban on post-weigh-in IV rehydration into his gripes.

"Another law that was approved now that does not help athletes in any way [is that] now athletes are not allowed to use an IV," said Silva. "Do you know what's the impact of this law? The brain damage caused by each hit will be much worse than if you were properly hydrated. The IV has no anabolic effects.

"These are not laws to actually protect and support athletes. This is part of all the oppression suffered by athletes. We are being crushed in so many ways that we're realizing that if we don't unite we will be finished."
