ONE Championship is taking a champion vs. champion match to China, as featherweight titleholder Narantungalag Jadamba is expected to meet interim champion Marat Gafurov in a title unification bout on Nov. 21 at ONE Championship 35, sources close to the promotion told MMAFighting.com.
Jadamba (10-3) is undefeated inside the ONE Championship cage. The 39-year-old defeated former champion Honorio Banario in his promotional debut, then outpointed Koji Oishi to capture the belt in Aug. 2014.
Jadamba was initially slated to defend his title against Gafurov at ONE Championship 31, however travel issues led to his removal from the card and Gafurov instead challenged Martin Nguyen for the interim strap.
Gafurov (12-0), an undefeated 30-year-old out of Dagestan, fulfilled his end of the bargain anyway, submitting Nguyen in just 41 seconds with a rear-naked choke.
Gafurov is 3-0 overall under the ONE Championship banner, owning a pair of similar first-round rear-naked choke victories over Rob Lisita and Ev Ting. He'll now put that record on the line against Jadamba.
ONE Championship 35 will be held at The Gymnasium of National Olympic Sports Center in Beijing, a 11,000 seat arena that was renovated for the 2008 Olympic Summer Games. The event will mark the third ONE Championship show to be held in mainland China. The main card will stream on online pay-per-view.
