UFC 182: Jones vs. Cormier took place January 3, 2015 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Top lightweight contender Donald Cerrone (26-6, 1 NC) took on hard-charging up-and-comer Myles Jury (15-1) in the night's co-main event, which aired live on pay-per-view. Round 1: Co-main event time. John McCarthy is the referee. Undefeated Myles Jury looking to make a statement against Cerrone, who had a 4-0 2014. McCarthy advises the fighters. Cowboy to center, and he drops a leg kick. Cerrone a traditionally slow started, and just as he tries a kick he gets taken down. Cerrone latches on for omoplata, but Jury not in trouble. Now Cerrone transitions and ends up in side control! That brought a rise out of the crowd. He has Jury's back, and he's got a tight body lock. He's delivering right hands trying to set up the rear naked choke. Jury sits up and Cerrone corrals him back, still with body lock. Now he scoots up as Jury tries to wriggle loose. They continue to thrash back and forth, but Cerrone not giving up his superior position. So far he can't get his arm around Jury's neck. Jury once again tries to roll, and once again he's brought back to the vulnerable spot where his neck is in danger. Now he snatches Jury's neck! He torques back and the crowd lets up a roar, but Jury slips out! Very poised there by Jury, who's been fending off the submission all round. Looks like he'll survive. Round 2: Cowboy chant rises up. Juy circles, and he shoots in for a takedown, which Cowboy thwarts. Jury in the middle, and Cerrone unleashes a jab. Exchange of leg kicks, and Cowboy's hurt a lot more. Push kick from Jury, but not much on it. Now he comes in high, but Cerrone gets out of the way of the combo. Solid left hand crashes home for Cerrone, which sends Jury on his bicycle out of there. Stalking, Jury tries a spinning backfist which misses. Overhand right from Jury catches Cerrone's forearms, and now Cerrone tries a high kick which is errant. Cerrone traditionally picks people apart when he finds his range, but right now he's being patient. Jury with a couple of inside leg kicks, but again, not much on them. Cerrone delivers one, and Jury nearly snatches his foot. Bang, Cowboy slams a hard leg kick into his thigh. Huge resonating body kick from Jury, and Cowboy walks right through it. That was loud! Leg kick from Jury. Nice switch there from Cowboy, who starts low and ends up with a nice strike up top. Knee from Cerrone in an exchange, and Jury shakes it off. Round 3: Final round, and Cerrone paces as he waits. He comes out with a couple of stiff jabs, but then he eats a couple in return. Body kick from Jury, who is landing here. Another spinning backfist from Jury, but it's just a vapor trail as Cerrone scoots away. Leg kick from Cerrone, and Jury does wide sweep out. Two inside leg kicks from Jury. Cerrone once again with leg kick, and Jury ducks down and grabs his leg, driving Cerrone to fence. Can't get takedown, but he's now toiling for it on fence. Cerrone won't budge. They break. Huge head kick from Cerrone! Wow. Right in front of press row. Jury, remarkably, shakes it off. But Cowboy smells blood in the water. He's stalking, and he tracks Jury down opposite end of the cage. They they roll again. Straight jab lands for Cerrone. Leg kick, and Jury again tries to parlay that into a takedown; once again nothing doing. Cerrone's fight now. He's picking Jury apart. Another leg kick, and -- yet again -- Jury goes low and tries to score a takedown. He can't get it. Cerrone spins off, and Jury, on his back, tries to inveigle him to come down. Cerrone says no, and they are back up. Another takedown attempt from Jury, but again, Cerrone is up for the task. And as they stand, Cerrone pushes Jury down and unleashes a series of all-out kicks.
