Five years later, they will meet again.
Urijah Faber and Raphael Assuncao, who battled as featherweights at WEC 46 in 2010, will rematch, now as bantamweights, in the main event of UFC Fight Night 62 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on March 21.
Combate first reported that the bout is agreed, but the contracts are yet to be signed.
Faber (32-7), who submitted Assuncao with a rear-naked choke back in 2010, won back-to-back fights since losing a title fight to Renan Barao, tapping Alex Caceres and Francisco Rivera. The former WEC featherweight, 8-0 under the UFC banner in non-title fights, returns to the main card after a couple of undercard bouts.
Assuncao (23-4) was hoping to fight for the title after scoring his seventh straight victory as a bantamweight in the UFC, a unanimous decision over Bryan Caraway, but broke his ankle in training. However, the Brazilian will return to action a month before a title fight between T.J. Dillashaw and Renan Barao, set for UFC 186.
In the lightweight division, Josh Thomson returns against undefeated Gilbert Burns. Combate also reported the match-up.
Thomson (20-7, 1 no-contest) looks for his first wins inside the Octagon since a shocking second-round knockout over Nate Diaz in 2013. Since then, the former Strikeforce lightweight champion suffered back-to-back split decision losses to Ben Henderson and Bobby Green.
Burns (9-0) makes his third appearance under the UFC banner. The Blackzilians fighter, who went the distance for the first in his professional career in a unanimous decision win over Andreas Stahl in his UFC debut, tapped Christos Giagos in his 155-pound debut in the UFC in October.
UFC Fight Night 62 is set to take place at the Macanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
