Top-ranked featherweights Chad Mendes and Ricardo Lamas are slated to tangle on April 4 in the main event of UFC Fight Night 63. The UFC announced the bout during Sunday's UFC Boston broadcast.

For Mendes (16-2), the bout serves as the first step towards another title run. The Team Alpha Male product dropped a thrilling instant classic to featherweight champion Jose Aldo in the pair's Oct. 2014 rematch, which garnered third-place honors on MMAFighting.com's 'Fight of Year' list.

Mendes dragged Aldo into deeper waters than the Brazilian had ever been in before, repeatedly cracking Aldo with hard flurries and counters, and even dropping the champion. But alas, Mendes ultimately fell short, losing a unanimous decision on the judges' scorecards.

Lamas (15-3), meanwhile, has won back-to-back fights since his decision loss to Aldo, first edging out Hacran Dias then stopping Dennis Bermudez with an opening-round guillotine choke.

Two additional bouts were also announced for UFC Fight Night 63 on the broadcast.

Bobby Green (23-6) will meet Jorge Masvidal (28-8) in the night's lightweight co-main event, while TUF 15 winner Michael Chiesa (11-2) will fight Mitch Clarke (11-2).

UFC Fight Night 63 takes place at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia and air live on FOX Sports 1. In a welcome change of pace, the card will begin in the afternoon, 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT. An updated fight card can be seen below.
