UFC Fight Night 50 live blog: Jacare Souza vs. Gegard Mousasi

This is the UFC Fight Night 50 live blog for Jacare Souza vs. Gegard Mousasi, a middleweight bout at Friday night's UFC event at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Conn.

Souza, who is 3-0 in the UFC, will face Mousasi, who is 2-1 in the UFC, in the main event.

Round 1: Herb Dean is the ref for this main event, a rematch to their 2008 fight in DREAM. They touch them up. A lot of head movement as they feel each other out and gauge distance. Jacare shoots in for a double leg, but nothing there. Now he does it again at the other end, and Mousasi thwarts, so they tie up on fence. Jacare trying to trip Mousasi there, but Mousasi doing good job of keeping his legs apart. Now they exchange short knees, while Jacare remains posted on Mousasi along fence. A little separation there and Mousasi slammed a knee through clinch. Now Jacare, after much strain, able to dump Mousasi on his back, and he goes to work. He swiftly moves into half guard, and gets a couple of knees off into Mousasi's ribs. Mousasi now trying to lock up a triangle, and that creates a bit of chaos as Jacare stands up. Upkicks, the same thing that downed Jacare when they met in 2008 against Mousasi, but he's cautious and gets safely back into Mousasi's guard. More knees from Jacare, and he then slams home a wicked right hand that lands and gets an oooh from the crowd. Jacare fishing for a kimura toward the end of the round, but can't wrest Mousasi's arm free. MMA Fighting scores R1 for Souza, 10-9.

Round 2: Looks like Jacare is having a problem with his wrap, and they fix it before they start second. Here we go. Nice left hand there in an exchange from Jacare, and that backed Mousasi up. Now he comes forward winging bombs, and that puts Mousasi on his skates. Temporarily he recovers, then Jacare blitzes again. Wild exchange. Mousasi ties him up, sneaks in a good uppercut that lands on Souza's jaw. Now Jacare takes Mousasi down, and here we go again. The reptile-man is on top, and he's looking for that arm again, trying to get something going. Mousasi defends, and Jacare with his wrists, trying to make Mousasi malleable. Mousasi scoots to the fence, and they scramble. Jacare trying to advance his position, but he can't get mount. Still in half-guard. But he's occasionally bursting through with punches. He stands momentarily, and again the threat of the upkick, but Jacare -- now in side control -- able to avoid taking anything. Mousasi is frustrated right now. Jacare again trying to pry his right arm loose for a kimura...he loses his grip. Now he snatches the wrists again, and tries a second time, but gives it up as the round ends on top. Round 3: Mousasi slouches shoulders and moves in, trying to create some offense in the stand-up. Couple of errant jabs, as Souza is keeping his head moving. Big exchange as Souza moves in on him, and Mousasi may have taken the worst of that. A welt forming on Mousasi's eye. He gets blasted with a big right hand that snaps his head back! He takes it, and Jacare takes him back down. Jacare is dominating on the ground, but he's also more than holding his own in the stand-up realm. Now he stands and circles around Mousasi, who is on his knees, and snatches his back. Can't hold it. Sweat, and he slips off. Back to center as they reset. Mousasi huffing air, looks tired. His right eye is busted up pretty good. Jacare puts his head down and rams Mousasi into the fence, trying to once again dump him to the canvas. Mousasi grabs the fence on the way down, and Dean throws out a verbal reprimand. But now Mousasi on his back again, and Jacare going to work. He postures up, then stands up, and lands a couple of big shots in that space as he jumps back in Mousasi's guard. Butterfly guard, now. He's trying to push Jacare off, but the man is elastic and only improves his position. Now he grabs Mousasi's head, and he cranks! This could be it, They spin...and it's over! Mousasi taps. Guillotine choke. Jacare is for real.
