Round 1: Herb Dean is the referee for this fight, which is the most anticipated fight of the night. He advises the fighters to protect themselves at all times. And here we go. McGregor, from a crouch, tries a high kick but fans. Less spectacularly Poirier lands a low kick. McGregor comes in with a combination, and Poirier steers clear of damage. Nice little exchange at center. McGregor is taunting. Leg kick from Poirier, and then a left hand from McGregor. They are trading strikes in the center. Left hand that time from McGregor looked to have caught Poirier. And boom! McGregor comes in and catches Poirier with a left hand right behind the ear, and that dropped Poirier. Hammerfists and a couple of lefts and Dean stops the fight! Wow. McGregor backed up his prediction that he would put away Poirier quick. The Irishman notches the biggest win of his career.
