Floyd Mayweather vs. Marcos Maidana 2: Live round-by-round updates

Round 1: Ladies and gentlemen, the circus has begun. Julio Lopez belts out the Mexican national anthem. Some gentleman in a velvet suit then busts out the national anthem of Argentina on a flute. No joke. And now some other gentleman (not wearing a velvet suit) sings the same. The American national anthem is sung by... Monica. Here comes the walkouts. Maidana out first to massive swell of applause from this Las Vegas crowd. It's Mayweather time. No Justin Beiber, no Lil Wayne this time. Just "Money." Our referee for tonight's action is Kenny Bayless. Here we go. Mayweather immediately snaps out his jab. And again, this time to the body. Maidana walks Mayweather to the ropes and fires off a one-two. Mayweather slips, then takes a moment. Mayweather being far more defensive this time around. Maidana eats a shot. Round 2: Maidana stalks Mayweather to the ropes, then fires off a three-punch flurry. Mayweather constantly moving and circling. Maidana finally closes the distance and Mayweather clinches. Maidana struggling to get something going. Mayweather slips a few Maidana jabs and pops him one. Quick one-two from Mayweather. And Maidana eats another counter against the ropes. Mayweather misses with a straight right. Mayweather cracks Maidana with a short left hook. This round, at least, is reminiscent of the first fight. Wild exchange but nothing lands flush. Maidana continues to throw volume at Mayweather. Round 5: Mayweather opens with a three-punch flurry. Mayweather storms forward and lands a scalding jab over the top. Mayweather controlling the pace this right, keeping Maidana at the end of his jab. Mayweather swarms but Maidana slips it and jogs to the center of the ring. Maidana counters with a flurry. Mayweather clinches as Maidana charges inside. Maidana stalks Mayweather against the ropes but can't get anything going. Maidana eats a hard left hook. Bayless warning both fighters to keep this fight clean. Maidana starting to work short shots inside the clinch. Bayless quick to break 'em up, but this is getting chippy. Maidana storms forward and unloads a salvo against the ropes. No good. Mayweather pops him one, then they clinch. Round 10: Maidana needs to dial up his urgency. Mayweather nearly pops Maidana with a hard left. Mayweather pushing forward now, Maidana seems to be fading. Mayweather settles himself against the ropes, goads Maidana into a flurry, then escapes out the side. Maidana clinches then straight bowls over Mayweather. Bayless docks a point from Maidana. Mayweather paws out his jab, circles, then cracks Maidana with a right. Left hook to the body for Mayweather, followed by another right hand. Round 12: They touch gloves for this twelfth and final round. Mayweather dancing around the ring, letting this one ride out. Mayweather starting to talk. Maidana trying to cut off the ring but doing so unsuccessfully. Mayweather content to just dart around the outside and play defense. Maidana pumps his jab and can't lock down Mayweather. Short right hand finally lands for Maidana. Huge wave of boos pouring down from the crowd at this point. Maidana briefly corners Mayweather but can't find a home for his punches.
