Andre Galvao has ‘no idea’ how he will submit Chael Sonnen at Metamoris 4

It’s a 20-minute submission-only grappling match, and Andre Galvao doesn't want any result except the win on Saturday night.

Galvao headlines the Metamoris 4 card against UFC veteran Chael Sonnen in Los Angeles, and he won’t change his style against the wrestler. A two-time ADCC winner, Galvao plans to go for the finish.

"I’m going to use my jiu-jitsu like I always did," Galvao told "I will have to submit him to get the win, and I’m going to do what I have to do to get the win. I’m going for the submission. I have to maintain my focus, my attention and my strategy. Pay attention all the time. I can predict what he’s going to do, but I have to be ready for any situation."

Galvao is a huge betting favorite, and the jiu-jitsu community sees no way he won’t tap the UFC veteran. He agrees he has the obligation to win, but it’s not different from any other match he’s ever done.

"If I was fighting Buchecha, Rodolfo or any other fighter, I would have had the same obligation to win. The opponent doesn’t matter," he said. "I will do what I always do and try to win, no matter who the opponent is."

Will Sonnen be the moral victor if he manages to survive 20 minutes against Galvao?

"This thing that a draw would be a loss for one of the fighters doesn’t exist. It’s a draw," the Brazilian responded. "There will always be someone attacking and someone defending in a match. There’s a time limit, you can’t consider yourself the winner if you don’t submit your opponent. If I wrestle with an Olympic champion for 20 minutes and don’t let him get my back on the ground for three seconds, I can’t call myself the winner for that – especially if I only defend myself or run away from the fight."

The jiu-jitsu star is aware of Sonnen’s strong wrestling abilities, and he might even pull guard on Saturday night. "Jiu-jitsu gives you many options," he said. How is he going to tap Sonnen, however, is the million-dollar question.

"You want me to tell you everything, huh? I think you want Sonnen to know too much," he said with a laugh. "I don’t know, I have no idea how (I will submit him). I just know that I will go for it because that’s the rule. You have to submit to win."
