As many of you know, UFC 176 has been canceled. The card got cancelled because Jose Aldo was injured and ruled out of his title fight vs. Chad Mendes. Without Aldo vs. Mendes, this fight card is obviously not a PPV caliber card but how come the UFC can't use the rest of the fight card and put it on fight pass?
If we remove the main event title fight, you could still construct a fight card having Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza vs. Gegard Mousasi as the main event. If we look at the past main events on fight pass, you could make the argument that Jacare vs. Mousasi would be the best main event of all the fight pass cards.
The UFC has had no problem giving us weak fight cards but the rest of the fight card had some names that casual fans would recognize like Gray Maynard, Lorenz Larkin, Bobby Green, and a good match up between Danny Castillo and Tony Ferguson.
We have seen Bellator cancel their first PPV but instead of scrapping the whole card, they chose to put the card on Spike TV. The UFC set up Fight Pass so that they could add content for MMA fans, so why exactly can't this fight happen on fight pass? by delaying the fighters from competing, just using Jacare as an example that could hold up the Middleweight title picture because Vitor Belfort and Jacare are the main options for Chris Weidman's next title defense.
The only argument that could probably be made is we could use some of the names and try to improve future cards like the T.J. Dillashaw Renan Barao rematch.
Maybe in the next couple of days, we will hear how come this couldn't be on Fight Pass?
