On one of the more zany nights this year, it was the former lightweight champion Benson Henderson -- who is normally the center of controversy for tight split decisions -- who stole the show.
Bendo was awarded $50,000 as half of the Performance of the Night award at UFC Fight Night 42 in Albuquerque after scoring his first finish in four years against Rustam Khabilov. Henderson and Khabilov went back and forth for the bulk of four rounds before the MMA Lab fighter landed a devastating right uppercut combination in the fourth. At that point, Henderson pounced and took Khabilov's back, sinking the choke.
The last time Henderson finished a fight was at WEC 48 in April of 2010, when he finished Donald Cerrone via guillotine.
Also taking home a Performance of the Night check was Polish fighter, Piotr Hallmann, who scored a third round rear-naked choke over veteran Yves Edwards. Hallmann, who trains at the MMA Lab in Arizona, is now 2-1 in the UFC.
As for Fight of the Night, the UFC awarded that $50,000 apiece to Danny Martinez and Scott Jorgensen for their back-and-forth battle on the prelims. Jorgensen, who snapped a three-fight losing streak with a unanimous decision, had to battle through plenty of adversity in the fight with the heavy underdog Martinez.
It was Jorgensen's first win since dropping to flyweight back in mid-2012. It marked the third time in Jorgensen's UFC career that he's taken home bonus money. The last time he earned an end of the night bonus was against John Albert in December 2012, when he won both Fight of the Night and Submission of the Night bonuses.
