A radical prediction...
Anthony "Rumble" Johnson looked nothing short of spectacular in his triumph over Phil Davis. Eleven of his seventeen professional have come via ko/tko. His knockouts of Mike Kyle, Yoshiyuki Yoshida and Charlie Brenneman were especially brutal. Rumble also has zero submission victories. Rich Clementi, Vitor Belfort and Josh Koscheck submitted Johnson in three of his four professional loses. His only other loss was a fluke eye injury in the Kevin Burns fight. This fight was also the only loss he was able to avenge.
Does this sound like a fighter who could defeat one of the greatest martial artists of all time in Jon "Bones" Jones? Absolutely not. If Rumble could lose to smaller fighters in Clementi, Belfort and Koscheck, how could he possibly beat Jones?
Despite these considerations, it could be argued that Rumble just may be the Kryptonite to Superman Jones. Jones has been able to fight off hard punchers in Quinton Jackson and Glover Teixeira. So, why couldn't he use distance to defeat Johnson? Simply because Johnson punches AND kicks even hard than Jackson and Glover. Johnson also owns a comfy 78" reach. Glover has a 76" reach. Could two inches make a difference? Not only does Johnson have bricks for fists, but he also has perhaps the hardest kicks in the lhw division today. Remember that no one thought that Matt Serra would beat GSP.
