After a night of undeniably strong action, the UFC awarded their post-fight bonuses at the amount of $50,000 each to Donald Cerrone for his submission victory over Edson Barboza, Alex White for his TKO stoppage of Estevan Payan and Thiago Alves alongside Seth Baczynski for their Fight of the Night performance at UFC on FOX 11 on Saturday night.
UFC on FOX 11 took place at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, and airing on Fight Pass, Fox Sports 1 and FOX.
Alves, returning to the Octagon after a two-year hiatus due to injury, was able to consistently score with devastating leg kicks and combination punching. Baczynski, however, hung in strong and never stopped being offense. He wasn't able to score a takedown, but was successful in head strikes that closed Alves' right eye and caused a bloody nose. The judges scored it 30-27, 30-27 and 30-27, giving Alves the unanimous decision win. Alves moves to 20-9 while Baczynski slides to 19-11.
The other two Performance of the Night bonuses went to winners who claimed their victories via submission and TKO.
In the submission department, it was Donald Cerrone who earned the prize for his first-round stoppage of Edson Barboza. Things weren't going well for the American as Barboza, the faster and seemingly more fearsome striker, landed with leg kicks and hard hooks from both directions. Eventually, however, Cerrone connected with a jab that rocked Barboza, dropping him to the canvas. Wasting no time, Cerrone took Barboza's back and almost immediately locked in the fight-ending rear naked choke. The end came officially at 3:15.
Cerrone climbs to 23-6 with 1 no contest while Barboza drops to 13-2.
Last, but certainly not least, UFC rookie Alex White also claimed a post-fight bonus when he stopped Estevan Payan with strikes at just 1:28 of round 1. White connected with a right hand that drove Payan to the mat and it was a quick barrage of punches that forced the stoppage soon thereafter. White moves to 10-0 while Payan drives to 14-6 with 1 no contest.
