New Champion! BellatorMMA117 FULL Rundown

Last week's Bellator event saw tons of exciting fights and lots of finishes. Lets hope this one is no different.

Coming at you from the Mid-America Center, Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States on April 14, 2014 is BellatorMMA 117.A New champion will be crowned that night. Here's a breakdown of what to expect.

Main card

Douglas Lima (25-5-0) vs Rick Hawn (18-2-0) - Douglas Lima has been on a tear scoring 4 straight KO victories since his loss to former WW champ Ben Askren. He will finally get another shot at the gold when he faces fellow Bellator WW tournament winner Rick "Genghis" Hawn who is on a 4 fight win streak himself (2 Ko's , 2 decisions) with the same goal in mind. Rick's best chance here is to use his Olympic judoka background and press Lima against the cage, take him down and work from there, but against the likes of Lima that is a tough task. Lima is a huge WW who cut's down from 205. Even when Aksren got him down he was always attacking from bottom. I believe Lima will be able to stuff most of Hawns takedowns and light him up on the feet. Prediction: Lima 1st round KO

Patricky Pitbull (12 - 5 - 0) vs Derek Campos(14 - 3 - 0)- The lightweight tournament finals are between two men very familiar with the tournament. Patricky pitbull was in a do or die situation going into his quarterfinals fight with Rickles. Facing being cut with another loss Patricky did not disappoint. Pitbull got a violent KO victory over "the caveman" to stamp his ticket to the semi finals. Derek Campos the winner of 5 straight saw a very different route to the tourney. Originally slated to face Terry Etim (who pulled out due to ACL injury) ended up defeating a fight master cast member Tim Welch in a lopsided decision. Campos has shown he's more than willing to stand and trade but his best bet here is to take it to the ground and grind out a victory against the heavy handed Pitbull. Patricky must do everything in his power to not let that happen. Prediction: Pitbull 3rd round TKO

Derek Anderson(11 - 0 - 0) vs Marcin Held(17-3-0)- The first LW semi final pits two young stars up against each other in undefeated Derek Anderson and 22 year old leg lock machine Marcin Held. Anderson started his career in Bellator as a heavy underdog going up against Patricky Pitbull, but he was able to mix it up very well showing of his skills as a well rounded mixed martial artist. In his quarterfinals match up against Brandon Girtz we saw a lot of back and forth action in the first. When the bell rang for the second round Derek had a different look in his eye and came out focused and determined. Girtz was looking for the takedown and Anderson knew it and threw a beautifully timed knee to get the KO. Marcin is no slouch himself in the standup game scoring a KO win himself in his bout against ryan healy right before his quarterfinal bout where he scored yet another toe hold victory over Rodrigo Cavelheiro. Derek Anderson is a very well rounded mixed martial artist as is Held. That said Girtz had some success in the first round against Anderson taking it to the matt and that's exactly where Marcin wants this fight. Anderson should be able to stop a few takedowns but ultimately Held will take it to the ground and once it's there it's only a matter of time until he gets the submission. Prediction Marcin Held 2nd round submission.

Karl Amoussou(16 - 6 - 2) vs David Gomez(16-7-0) In this welterweight feature fight you'll see rising star Karl Amoussou fight KOTC veteran David Gomez. Karl came into the organization with high hopes and has done excellent but dropping two fights as of late to Ben Aksren and Paul Bradley he desperately needs to win here to stay afloat in the division. Luckily for him Gomez isn't on his level. Both David and Karl are primarily strikers and should make for an exciting fight, but Gomez is just too over matched here. Prediction: Karl Amoussou 1st round tko

Tim Bazer (14-15) vs. Jordan Parsons (9-1) This preliminary bout pits rising star Jordan "pretty boy" Parsons against Tim Bazer. Bazer was on a 3 fight win streak until recently losing a split decision December of last year. Although experience is on his side, I expect domination from Parsons here. The majority of Bazer's losses are by submission, so expect another one here. Prediction: Jodan Parsons 1st round submission.

Josh Arocho (13-12) vs. Julio Cesar Neves (28-0) This bought I am personally excited about. Julio Ceaser Nevers Jr. is 28-0 at just 19 years old. He fought and won an astounding 15 times last year! Josh has been on a skid and I don't think he has anything for Julio.Cesar Nevers has the experience and the more well rounded game. With 17 Ko's 8 submissions to only 3 decisions on his record, expect another finish from Julio here. Prediction: Julio Cesar Neves Jr. 2nd round submission.

Victor Moreno (32-19) vs. Anthony Smith (17-11) This is an interesting bout because both fighters are on a skid. Normally you would go with the guy with more experience here, but all but one of Victors losses have been by finsher, and all of Smith's wins are by finish. It all comes down to who want's it more and you have to go with the young finisher here. Prediction: Anthony Smith 3rd round submission.

Ben Crowder (10-11) vs. Joe Vedepo (14-8) This is your classic loser leaves town match here. Vedepo is on a 3 fight losing streak and Crowder coming off a loss as well. The difference being before Crowder's loss he was on a 4 fight win streak. If Vedepo wants to keep his roster spot he needs to win and win impressively. Even though Crowder has more momentum, I'm going with the more proven fighter in Vedepo. Prediction: Joe Vedepo decision

Larue Burley (3-0) vs. Cliff Wright (8-5) Cliff Wright coming off a submission win against Derek Loffer at Bellator 104 will look to keep the ball rolling against the only man to defeat Bubba Jenkins Larue Burley. All of Wrights wins have come by way of decision but if Bubba Jenkins couldn't stop him on the ground I don't think wright can. Look for Larue Burley to continue his climb to the top with a win over Cliff here. Prediction: Larue Burley decision.

Martin 'Trey' Brown (6-2) vs. Jared Downing (9-4) Brown has all the momentum going into this fight. He is on a two fight win streak in his young career. Where as Downing dropped his last three but to very high level competition. Brown's streak is nice but he hasn't been competing at Downing's level. Downings experience and higher skill level will show and stroll to a win here. Prediction Jared Downing Decision.

Houston Alexander (15-10) vs. Matt Uhde (3-4) The first fight on the card is traveled UFC veteran Houston Alexander vs Matt Uhde. Uhde came into Bellator with a lot of promise but lost all of his fights withing the organization. It is do or die for both of these fighters. While I tend to lean towards the younger fighter, he has shown he can't hang with high level guys and Houston hasn't been able to do that for a while. That said the experience and power of Houston will be to much for Uhde here. Prediction: Houston Alexander Decision.
