UFC Fight Night 36 took place February 15, 2014 at the Arena Jaraguá in Jaraguá do Sul, Brazil. Top-10 ranked middleweight contenders Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza (20-3, 1 NC) and Francis Carmont (22-8) locked horns in the night's co-headlining bout, which aired live on FOX Sports 1.

Round 1: The referee in charge of the action is Keith Peterson. Both fighters open orthodox. Decent left hook connects for Carmont, but Jacare lands a spinning kick and takes the back of a failed punch. In transition, Jacare seems to put Carmont to sleep for just a second, but Carmont survives (it's not clear if he went out or not). Carmont reverses position just as the round ends.

Round 2: Jacare throws a head kick and uses it to press Carmont into the fence. It doesn't work, though, and they break. Outside leg kick from Carmont finds the mark. Body shot scores for Jacare and he's doing all the stalking. Carmont now pressing Jacare into the fence, but ultimately can't get the takedown. Jacare clubs the back of the neck of Carmont, but doesn't get much. Jacare shoots for a single, then to a double along the fence. They separate. Carmont with a one-two. Round 3: Outside leg kick for Carmont. Decent body shots for Jacare. Jacare perfectly times a takedown and lands into back control. Carmont is almost belly down and Jacare is pounding on him hunting for the rear naked choke. Carmont tries to stand and Jacare locks up a body triangle.
