But Bagautinov got the last laugh in Newark, as he looked stronger as the bout went on and scored a unanimous decision victory. All three judges had the bout 29-28 in the Russian's favor.
In a fast-paced opening round, both fighters had their moments, but Bagautinov was just a little bit better. The highlight coming mid-round, as both fighters traded heel hooks. Late in the round, Lineker worked for a Kimura, but time ran out before he could cinch it.
In the second, Lineker stalked Bagautinov for much of the round in his best round of the fight. He began to connect as the round progressed, but never quite got his opponent into danger.
Bagautinov regained control of the bout in the third round, as he started landing takedowns. He then played to the crowd in the final seconds, basically mocking Lineker's attempts to get him into another heel hook.
Bagautinov improved to 13-2, 3-0 in the UFC. Lineker dropped to 23-7 and had a four-fight win streak snapped.
