Round 1: Keith Peterson is the third man. Lamas circling, and Aldo pivoting in the center. Lamas taking a long look as he moves. Comes in with a head kick, but Aldo able to step aside easily. They are both sizing the other up. Aldo finally fires off a one-two combo, but glances Lamas' eyes. Now they are frozen in each other's headlights. Lamas breaks that trance by peeling right. Aldo still honing, but being selective. Lamas comes in with a big overhand right that doesn't connect. Aldo saw it, and stepped back in plenty of time. Lamas with an errant high kick. And now a jab that hits nothing. Aldo a moving target. And just as Lamas moves in he fires off a combination, high-low, crashing into Lamas with a punch and a hard leg kick. Lamas tries another kick, and Aldo catches his foot and spins him down. While Lamas is off balance, he swoops in with a barrage of quick strikes that land, but Lamas coolly spins out. They exchange jabs, long reaching jabs. Aldo so fast in both his striking and his elusiveness. Ten seconds left, and Aldo backs him towards fence. Right before the horn, he comes in with flying knee and two short punches. MMA Fighting scores R1 for Aldo, 10-9.

Round 2: Lamas to the middle of cage, and he tries to land a head kick which Aldo blocks. Lamas not afraid thus far to get in there, but he is cautious too. Big leg kicks from Lamas first, and then by Aldo, which buckled Lamas for a minute. That is the leg kicking dervish we know. Lamas nevertheless still moving and trying to be first in striking game. Aldo steps to the side and delivers a clean uppercut to Lamas' rib cage. Aldo is now holding center, and has Lamas a little more wary of closing in. Again an exchange of leg kicks, first Lamas, then Aldo (with Aldo's counting more). Aldo fakes a right and then once again whips his leg into Lamas' knee. And again. A welt forming above Lamas eye after a quick combination from Aldo. So quick. Lamas tries to land a jab, and Aldo very quick to throw two punches in return. He connects on the second. Aldo's counter game is legit tonight. He gets out of the way of a Lamas kick and again slams home an uppercut into Lamas' thorax. Again, Aldo kicks Lamas' leg, and Lamas beginning to anticipate it, lifting his leg up. Big kick attempt at the end by Lamas, but it was as though Aldo were a mile away by the time he got it off. MMA Fighting scores R2, 10-9 for Aldo (20-18 overall).

Round 3: Here we go. Push kick from Lamas gets Aldo's heat off him. But the Brazilian moves forward, and is bobbing as he tries to set Lamas up. A deke flying knee leads to a flurry, lightning fast, two upstairs shots and two leg kicks, all in the space of a second. Aldo feeling very comfortable in there. And he fakes high and kicks Lamas leg. Those are really starting to count. Lamas strafes the champion with a jab, and that time it got through. Push kick again, and Aldo covers up and peddles out. Lamas now mixing things up. He tries a head kick, but Aldo blocks. Uppercut by Lamas misses and is answered by a right hand right down Main Street. Another head kick fans from Lamas, and he is punished with yet another leg kick. Lamas tries to come forward, misses with his combination but glances Aldo with a head kick at the end. Aldo now with a one-two, and each hits. Lamas a gamer, though. He hasn't been affected to the point of losing his aggression altogether. Body strike from Aldo, as a chant rolls up for Aldo in the crowd. Lamas comes in with hard body kick, and Aldo deflects it, then catches foot and spins him. MMA Fighting scores R3 for Aldo, 10-9 (30-27 overall).

Round 4: Championship rounds. Ground action thus far has been nil. Huge audible leg kick from Aldo. Now Lamas shoots in for a takedown, and gets Aldo on the fence. He lifts him in the air by his knee, and holds him suspended there for a dramatic second before bringing him down. Aldo still on fence. Now Aldo turns Lamas into fence, and presses his back up against the links. Lamas working knees into Aldo's thighs, while Aldo is driving his elbows into Lamas' side. Aldo finally gets Lamas on the ground, and the Chicagoan bounces along the fence. Aldo finally climbs on him, and is suspended for a moment in Lamas' butterfly guard. He now moves to half guard, and boxes Lamas' ears with a simultaneous clashing of his hands. Now he moves to mount, and the crowd lets up a cheer. He grabs Lamas' neck, works for a better depth, and then snatches it. Lamas rolls into it, and looks momentarily to have avoided danger. Now Lamas gets up and grabs Aldo's leg, driving him into the cage. Aldo, elastic and refusing to go down, simple starts dropping elbows into Lamas' head. Lamas using his legs, driving his knees into Aldo's thighs, but the fourth round was Aldo's. MMA Fighting scores R4 for Aldo, 10-9 (40-36 overall).

Round 5: Lamas' corner pleading with him to finish between rounds, and Lamas bouncing in his corner as the bell rang. Here we go. Lamas with a quick kick that Aldo sees and catches. With Lamas off-balance, it's Aldo who moves in and puts Lamas on the fence, where he takes him to the canvas. Aldo immediately goes to work trying to better his position from the guard. Aldo working steadfast, finally advances to mount. Lamas clinging to his torso for dear life, but Aldo smoothly creeping up. He is flattening Lamas out, yet as tries to do some ground and pound Lamas able to scramble. And Lamas able to reverse! He is now dropping big punches on the champion! Aldo has him in guard, but Lamas is turning it on and looks fresh. Big left from Lamas. And another. He's coming in with elbows, too, but nothing has landed flush that way. Lamas grabbing Aldo's face and stifling his breathing. Now he is opening up again, dropping big punches. He stands to give himself range and comes in with another left, that swipes right through Aldo's cheek. Time running out, but Lamas still swinging. A series of small punches closes it out, just as Aldo was thinking about a triangle. Fight's over. Lamas showed a lot of heart at the end, and won the round...but too little too late. MMA Fighting scores R5, 10-9 for Lamas (49-46 overall for Aldo).
