Welcome to episode 119 of the Promotional Malpractice Live Chat.
This is it. The very last live chat of this year. And what better what to end this year than be discussing what could not only be an historic bout in UFC history, but one that kicks off the new year right? That, of course, is Jon Jones defending his UFC light heavyweight title against Daniel Cormier, which serves as the headlining bout of UFC 182. The rest of the card has a few intriguing bouts, but none quite like this. I actually find some of the criticism of this bout as a blowout disguised as something more as a cheap marketing ploy a position difficult to defend. I'll explain why during the chat.
As we close the door on 2014, we all wonder what's ahead in 2015. What will happen with fighter injuries? What's next for Brock Lesnar or Quinton Jackson? Will there be any changes with the fighter lawsuit? How will the sport look internationally in the next calendar year? We'll examine every angle.
Oh, and New York state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, the man most responsible for keeping MMA out of the state, is under investigation for accepting money from a law firm for a decade. Money, that is, he never publicly declared. That sounds fun.
