Bellator 131 Results: Mike Richman delivers quick knockout of Nam Phan

SAN DIEGO — Nam Phan competed 33 times in his career before setting foot in the Bellator cage.

Mike Richman made sure Phan didn’t actually spent much time in that cage on Saturday night.

A wicked body shot spelled the beginning of the end for Phan on Saturday night, as Richman went on to record a swift TKO victory at Bellator 131 at the Valley View Casino Center. The time of the stoppage in the 143-pound catchweight bout was 0:46 of the first round.

Richman scored a pair of flash knockdowns right out of the gate. A well placed left hand to the ribs sent Phan scrambling back to the cage, where Richman swarmed him with a big series of right hands, which brought an end to the fight.

"That was our game plan, we felt like we really matched up well against Nam, and that’s what we did," Richman said.

The Minnesota native had a message for bantamweight champion Joe Warren after the fight.

"You’re going to look just like him," Richman said.

With the victory, Richman improved to 18-5, with two straight wins and 16 finishes. Phan dropped to 20-14.
