Beniel Dariush had a spirited walkout Saturday night, singing along to Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" as he made his way to the Octagon in Rio de Janeiro.
But the highlights of his lightweight fight with Carlos Diego Ferreira will never be set to "Thriller."
Dariush controlled and shut down Ferreira at UFC 179, never letting Ferreira get untracked en route to a unanimous decision victory. The judges' scores were 30-27 across the board.
Ferreira, a jiu-jitsu specialist, simply had no answer for Dariush (9-1), an Iranian native who now trains with Kings MMA in Orange County, Calif. Ferreira (11-1) came out swinging in the third round and landed several solid uppercuts, but Dariush regained control, closed the distance, took it to the ground, and the rest of the round was a repeat of the first two rounds.
Dariush improved to 3-1 in the UFC.
