BOSTON -- Two official fights into his UFC career, Uriah Hall is looking more like a product of Ultimate Fighter and Fox hype than any sort of contender.

The New York middleweight, who rode a tremendous wave of hype based on a spin-kick knockout of Adam Cella during the last TUF season, has looked lackluster outside the TUF gym.

Saturday at TD Garden, Hall was outwrestled and outstruck by John Howard for his second straight loss. Howard, fighting as a replacement in his first UFC bout since 2011, earned a split-decision victory, with scores of 30-27, 28-29, and 29-28.

Hall got the best of the first round, outstriking Howard, who appeared to have trouble figuring out the lanky Hall's range. By round two, though Howard got his rhythm, flicking left hands to set up the clinch and scoring takedowns. Round three was similar to round two, except it was a more clear-cut round in Howard's favor.

Howard, a native of Dorchester, Mass. improved to 21-8 and is 7-1 since being cut from the UFC two years ago. Hall dropped to 7-4.
