UFC 162 results: Frankie Edgar beats Charles Oliveira

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

Frankie Edgar is a lifelong winner, but it had been a long time since he raised his arm in victory in a UFC octagon. Even though both of his UFC lightweight title fight losses to Benson Henderson were controversial, he had still gone home without gold. A loss to Jose Aldo was a bit more decisive against him. But now, Edgar is back on the winning side of the ledger after defeating Charles Oliveira at UFC 162.

Edgar earned the judges' nod in a unanimous decision 30-27, 30-27, 29-28.

It was his first win since knocking out Gray Maynard in Oct. 2011.

Edgar seemingly gained momentum as the fight went on, and had Oliveira in trouble midway through the third, landing several well-placed right hands. Oliveira staggered his steps at one point but managed to hold on until the final bell.

"I seen some fights he's been stopped," Edgar said. "I was really looking for a finish, especially in the third, but he was tough."

Edgar scored most of the bout's significant strikes, and out-landed Oliveira 114-59 over the course of the three-rounder, according to FightMetric.

Edgar is now 16-4-1, while Oliveira fell to 16-4 with 1 no contest.
