Melvin Guillard has always been a mercurial talent, capable of creating the spectacular and suffering the unexpected. He's put together impressive win streaks and other times, can't seem to get out of his own way. Most nights, it's just a matter of which version will show up.
UFC on FOX 8 saw the latter. Coming into the show, his job was possibly on the line. He had lost four of his last five, and a loss would mean a three-fight losing streak.
Instead, he destroyed Mac Danzig at Seattle's Key Arena, knocking him out at 2:47 of the second round.

It was a brutal finish, one of those ones that must force some kids, somewhere, about whether this sport is really worth trying.
Guillard dropped Danzig with a left hook and then swarmed him on the ground with a series of bombs. Danzig tried to defend and avoid, but there was no escaping it. Finally, a few got through, a series of hammerfists. One of them put Danzig completely out, a second landed before the ref could step in. Danzig's eyes rolled back in his head. It wasn't for the faint of heart, but it was a true representation of what Guillard at his best is capable of.
Another highlight-reel moment added to his collection, Guillard is now 31-12-2 with 1 no contest.
Danzig, a loser of two straight, fell to 21-11-1.
