UFC on FOX 7 results: Chad Mendes stops Darren Elkins by TKO, asks for Jose Aldo rematch

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo already has his next fight set, a defense against lightweight turned 145-er Anthony Pettis.

But Chad Mendes' campaign for a rematch continues in high-gear, and he may not be held off too much longer.

For the third straight fight since losing to Aldo, Mendes pulled off a sub two-minute knockout, starching the surging Darren Elkins in just 68 seconds.

The end came after Mendes hammered Elkins with a right hook. That wobbled the Indiana native, who backed up near the fence, only to get hit with another similar right hook. This time, Elkins went down, and Mendes swarmed him with ground strikes for the finish.

"I want that rematch," Mendes said afterward. "This is the goal. I'm working hard every single day to get that belt. I'm coming in here busting butt, and I think it shows. It's time."

Elkins had come into the fight on an impressive streak, with five straight victories. That made him the first man in the division to reel off a stretch that long. Against Mendes, it came to a quick end.

Mendes credited the finish to Team Alpha Male's new striking coach, Duane Ludwig. The team went 3-0 on the UFC on FOX 7 undercard, with teammates Joseph Benavidez and T.J. Dillashaw also scoring TKO victories.

Mendes is now 14-1, with his lone loss at the hands of Aldo. Perhaps soon, he'll get his chance at revenge.
