TUF 17 results: Travis Browne KO's Gabriel Gonzaga with elbow strikes

Paul Abell-US PRESSWIRE

Travis Browne's last fight was the first real disappointment of his career. While competing, he suffered a knee injury that robbed him of his stability, and he was eventually knocked out by Antonio Silva.

Once he stepped back into the octagon, he didn't have to wait long to feel the ecstasy of victory. Using a flurry of elbows, Browne crimped Gabriel Gonzaga for a knockout win.

The official finish came at 1:11 of the first round.

Gonzaga quickly showed his hand in the fight, looking to take the bout to the ground. On one his attempts, he drove Browne into the cage, but as Gonzaga dug low trying to get him to the mat, Browne was completely upright, and he slammed a series of elbows to the side of Gonzaga's head.

The third or fourth put Gonzaga on the mat unconscious, swiftly ending the fight.

"He did exactly what I thought. He shot in on my left kick. His head was there, my elbows were free," he said. "I'm a mixed martial artist. I'm not a standup guy. Thank you media, for making me a standup guy. Try to take me down, go ahead."

Browne's record moves to 14-1-1 with the win.

Gonzaga had won all three of his fights by submission since returning after a brief retirement. The loss snapped that streak, and dropped his record to 14-7.
