Morning Report: With Anderson Silva already eyeing a return to training, his son says he'd rather see him retire

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

Resting comfortably with his family, former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has a lengthy recovery ahead of him following a broken tibia and fibula suffered against Chris Weidman at UFC 168. While Silva reportedly is already questioning his surgeon when he'll be well enough to begin training, his 15 year old son, Kalyl, tells Brazilian outlet R7 he'd rather see his father walk away from competition. (via Google translate)

All respect for Chris to go out there and fight like a champion. Congratulations, Chris. It's your turn to be a legend. All the enemies are celebrating Silva and do not come to see me, is not my fault. But I want to see you do what he does. I hope he retires and go home because I'm tired of watching my father train every day, be gone for two or three months ... and a broken leg happens ... And as always you are my champion father. And once again, good job Chris.

With his son Kalyl pictured second from the right, Silva recently tweeted that he needed to be with his family to aid his recovery. If any faction could convince Silva to hang up the gloves, you'd have to assume it to be his family.

FANPOST OF THE DAY

Today's Fanpost of the Day comes via Graham Douglas.

The Ultimate Fighter is broken and here's why and here's the fix.

People go on and on about TUF and how bad it is. In fact the MMA "experts" often say publicly they don't watch or simply watch the fight and none of the other parts of the show. Is this a clue that something is broken? Frankly I've watched all the shows and all the episodes up until now. Fights every week? Bring it on. I have the cure for what's broken with TUF because there is a glaring problem in my opinion right now with the show.

A large flaw in TUF right now is that the cast doesn't often see the light of day after the show. A big deal? How about this. Why should I care about the show or the cast if the UFC decides to cut 90% of them at the end? Essentially I just invested in these fighters who won't be in the UFC anytime soon. To be honest, the past season was a tipping point for me. If they are casting the show that bad, then that need to be fix number one. Perhaps it's simply that there isn't the talent out there any more. If that's the case, then it's a very difficult fix indeed.
