For a moment on Saturday night, in that short, hazy window of time between the end of the fifth round and Bruce Buffer's call, the MMA world teetered in amazement. Johny Hendricks, the hard punching, two-time NCAA wrestling king, had actually done it. By all reasonable assumptions, he was the new UFC welterweight champion, wresting the title away from the greatest welterweight in the history of the sport with the performance of a lifetime at UFC 167. But that moment was fools gold.
Georges St-Pierre remains the UFC welterweight champion. Two judges, Sal D'Amato and Tony Weeks scored the fight for him, 48-47, each giving St-Pierre rounds one, three and five to award the Canadian a controversial split decision. Media scores disagreed, as did the scores you'll read below. The decision enraged even UFC President Dana White, who afterward rallied against the Nevada State Athletic Commission, proclaiming, "I'm f--king scared to come back here and do fights. I'm afraid of this state."
Who knows where we go from here. The controversy left a bizarre taste to a night that was otherwise meant to serve as a celebration. Instead, the phrase ‘never leave it in the hands of the judges' has never meant more.
W T F.... Worst decision EVER

— Jamie Varner (@jamievarner) November 17, 2013
One guy looks like he got run over by a big rig and the other guy looks like he went for a run. Bad decision. #UFC167

So I guess that makes me the undefeated, undisputed champion of the welterweight division.
— Ben Askren (@Benaskren) November 17, 2013
Hendricks' 85 significant strikes landed are the most St-Pierre has absorbed in a UFC fight. #UFC167
— Michael Carroll (@MJCflipdascript) November 17, 2013
Dear Nevada Athletic Commission, Decisions like this is how you killed boxing. Don't kill my sport. #UFC167 Fans
— Tim Kennedy (@TimKennedyMMA) November 17, 2013
The 20th anniversary of the the UFC is tainted by the worst judging decision in the history of the sport. F'ing clowns.
— Pat Miletich (@patmiletich) November 17, 2013
This is what happens when you have people who sell insurance by day and judge by night. The judges need to be fired!
— Pat Miletich (@patmiletich) November 17, 2013
When a room full of experienced fighters all agree on a decision and it goes the other way, you have problems.
— Pat Miletich (@patmiletich) November 17, 2013
I'm not being funny but johnny Hendricks won that fight.
— jimi manuwa (@POSTERBOYJM) November 17, 2013
Wow I feel for Hendricks right now ! Man no way you lost that fight man !!! @JohnyHendricks
— CB Dollaway (@cbdollaway) November 17, 2013

— Ben Saunders (@bensaundersMMA) November 17, 2013
Best 3 out of 5 judging system could work. 5 judges, majority wins. Then start eliminating judges that always blow it. @ufc @danawhite
— Urijah Faber (@UrijahFaber) November 17, 2013
GSP gets a split decision but that's insane! Hendricks won that fight #ufc167

— James Krause (@TheJamesKrause) November 17, 2013

— Sara McMann (@Sara_McMann) November 17, 2013
10-9 scoring is the problem. We need to implement 1/2 point systems to take in account the magnitude that each round is won by! #judgessuck
