Lyoto Machida's much talked about move to middleweight is now official, as the former light heavyweight champion made weight for his headlining fight with Mark Munoz. Machida, looking shredded and svelte in his new frame, weighed in at 185, while Munoz -- himself a big middleweight -- tipped the scales at 186.
Machida and Munoz are friends who have trained together in California, had a very cordial stare down. With the 185-pound title changing hands back in July when Chris Weidman defeated Anderson Silva, UFC Fight Night 30's main event figures to have loose title implications. Weidman and Silva will fight in a rematch at UFC 168 on Dec. 28 in Las Vegas.
In the co-main event, both England's own Ross Pearson (156) and Melvin Guillard (155) made weight for their lightweight showdown. Guillard, who switched camps from Denver to American Top Team, has gone just 2-4 in his last six fights. Meanwhile Pearson, is coming off of back-to-back victories over Ryan Couture and George Sotiropoulos.
All other fighters made weight with the exception of flyweight John Lineker, who came in two pounds over the 126-pound threshold. This marks the third time that Lineker has come in over weight since joining the UFC in May 2012.
