Round 1: Herb Dean the ref. Junior dos Santos landed a shot early, and Cain moved right through it. Velasquez with a single leg, and JDS slips out. They trade. JDS lands a nice shot, and Velasquez rushes back on him and lands some punches in close. The pressure is already coming from Velasquez, and Dos Santos is trying to time out that big punch. Head kick by Velasquez lands. Crazy pace here, particularly for heavyweights. Velasquez with JDS on fence, softens him up with some knees, and then takes him down. JDS fending him off from mount, but Velasquez relentless. As JDS turns out of it, he grabs JDS back. Then they go to fence, both standing, and Velasquez is trying for a single leg. JDS in full thwart mode. He is keeping the fight in close, not giving JDS any room to work with and tiring him out simultaneously. Velasquez is trying to get the fight back to the ground, but JDS resistant. Furious pace by Velasquez all through the first round. And continues it all the way to the bell. MMA Fighting scores the first round for Velasquez, 10-9.

Round 2: Second round, and they exchange on the fence. JDS with very quick snap punches, and Velasquez with an elbow. Velasquez lowers and plows into JDS on fence, and he has him tied up there. JDS with the whizzer, but he's eating pinches in close. JDS actually able to avoid much damage, but he can't break free. He finally pushes Velasquez off and reloads. Velasquez pursues, throwing a couple of jabs as he closes the distance right back into the cage. Again he throws some knees into JDS's thighs. They go right back onto cage, and the cage actually gives way a little bit. Somebody comes up to support, and Herb Dean directs. The fighters fight on. JDS with a brief takedown, but Velasquez right back up and on him. The chain links are beginning to show on JDS's back.More knees into the meat of his leg. Dos Santos just can't escape the pressure. When they do separate he tries to land that one shot, but Velasquez just keeps on him. Dos Santos gave him a very good right hand towards the end of the round. That reminded Velasquez that he's still there. MMA Fighting scores the second round for Velasquez, 10-9 (20-18 overall).

Round 3: Straight jab by Velasquez, and a big right bomb from JDS -- both land. Velasquez, unfazed, goes back to work on his midsection. They go to the fence, and Velasquez dirty boxes. JDS slips out for a moment and lands a right, but they end up in the same spot. Velasquez trading knees to the legs and fists to JDS's head. Dos Santos starting to bleed a little more along the nose. Elbow by Velasquez. Just stylized pressure from Velasquez, ruthless. They finally break, and Dos Santos back peddles for space, but before he can unload, he's back on fence. They scramble. And finally some room in the middle. And it's Velasquez that lands a big shot! Dos Santos was hurt. And Velasquez pursues. HE lands another big shot, and down goes JDS again. Herb Dean comes in and taps Velasquez's shoulde,r but Velasquez didn't notice and Dean didn't press the issue as JDS survived. But they are still on fence, and Velasquez is bringing the heat. Big punches. Right hands are landing with regularity right to Dos Santos chin. One, two, one, two. He keeps absorbing them and leaning, but not falling. He somehow survives the round. MMA Fighting scores the third round for Velasquez, 10-9 (30-27 overall).

Round 4: Championship rounds. Right hand by Velasquez lands, and he sags on the fence. He is still in a world of trouble. His heart and chin keeping him around, but now Velasquez unloading, one, two, three big punches. JDS again lolls backwards on the verge of collapse, but again hangs in there. Velasquez leans in and eats an elbow, but dishes out two more mean shots to JDS. What is keeping JDS up? JDS actually broke free from his confinement for a second and threw a big punch but Velasquez ducked out of the way. He still has velocity on those hail Marys. As they break on the fence again he lands a right hand, and Velasquez shakes it off. Amazingly JDS still has a lot behind those punches. He's not out of it. Velasquez plants his shoulder into JDS' thorax and storms him again. As they break, Dean steps in to have the doctor look at Dos Santos' eye. One of them is nearly closed, and the other is bleeding profusely above the eyebrow. Doctor says he's okay, and Velasquez swoops back in. Big elbow by JDS lands. There is blood everywhere. Insane fight! JDS still standing, and still connecting. This was the most competitive of the rounds. MMA Fighting scores the fourth round for Velasquez, 10-9 (40-36 overall).

Round 5: Doctor took long look at Dos Santos' eye. But deems him okay, and they go back at it. Velasquez shoots for single leg and gets JDS to the ground. Looks for submission, but the blood and sweat has made everything too slippery. Dos Santos climbs back to his feet. Velasquez, though, is like an oak beam through his chest. He is landing the short punches to the pulp of JDS's face. Short elbow response from JDS, and he lands a pair of them. But they do little to impede Velasquez, as he continues to post him on the fence. They break free for a moment, and it's Velasquez who snaps off some punches. Dos Santos went for a choke, and missed it, and planted face-first into the canvas. Looked like he might have knocked himself silly. And he can't continue! Velasquez wins this thing via TKO. What a war.
