Marcin Held vs. Dave Jansen Bellator season 7 lightweight tourney final set for March 7

New, comments

After an unexpected postponement of the originally scheduled season 7 lightweight tournament finale, it has a new date and venue: March 7 at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif.

On that night, Dave Jansen and Marcin Held will battle to determine the next challenger for divisional champion Michael Chandler, who successfully defended the belt for the first time last Thursday night with a submission win over Rick Hawn.

Jansen and Held were originally slated to fight last December, but on the night of the bout, Held, who at the time was just 20 years old, was not allowed to enter the grounds of the host venue Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana due to state gambling regulations, despite the fact that they let him on to the property to weigh in the previous day.

Held turned 21 on Jan. 18, so he will have no such troubles this time around.

With a record of 15-2, Held has impressed with his aggressive submission style, with most of his attacks aimed at the legs. For example, he's 5-0 in his last five bouts with one win by inverted heel hook, one by heel hook and another by toe hold.

Held would be aiming for a rematch with Chandler, who he faced in 2011, losing by technical submission due to an arm triangle choke.

The 33-year-old Jansen is a WEC veteran with a 19-2 record and 12 stoppage wins, including 11 submissions. He also comes into the fight boasting a five-fight win streak.

"I’ve had a lot of time to work on my game plan and really focus on this fight on March 7th," he said in a press release. "Marcin has the total package when it comes to submissions, so I know what I need to focus on to win this fight, and get a shot at the Bellator title."
