TORONTO -- It probably wasn't the highlight-reel win Matt Hamill imagined when he ended his retirement to return to the UFC, but after over one year away, the victory likely means more than the style it came in.

At UFC 152, Hamill resorted to his grinding style of takedowns and ground work, and made his way to a unanimous decision victory over Roger Hollett.

The judges scored it 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 in his favor.

Hamill set the tone for the fight early on when he took Hollett down in the first and launched a series of short punches that easily won him the round. It was his best extended action of the bout as both he and Hollett tired early on.

Hamill took him down once more in the second and twice in the third, ensuring the victory. Hollett never really threatened during the duration.

The crowd was not overly impressed with either, jeering at several junctures of the bout.

Still, it was Hamill's first victory since beating his former mentor Tito Ortiz back in October 2010. He's now 11-4.

Hollett, who was making his UFC debut, saw a personal five-fight win streak snapped with the defeat, dropping his career mark to 13-4.
