UFC 152 Undercard Live Blog: Magalhaes vs. Pokrajac, Dunham vs. Grant, More

This is the UFC 152 undercard live blog for the Jones vs. Belfort event at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.

There will be seven fights on the undercard. Igor Pokrajac vs. Vinny Magalhaes, TJ Grant vs. Evan Dunham, Sean Pierson vs. Lance Benoist, Jimmy Hettes vs. Marcus Brimage, Seth Baczynski vs. Simeon Thoresen, Mitch Gagnon vs. Walel Watson and Kyle Noke vs. Charlie Brenneman will be featured on the prelims.

Kyle Noke vs. Charlie Brenneman

Round 1: A few months ago Charlie Brenneman was fighting in a co-main event. Now he's the Facebook opener. Crazy to think about. Dan Miragliotta is our referee. Both fighters touch gloves and circle. Noke steps into a right hand that drops Brenneman. "The Spaniard" claws for a single leg and Noke swarms. Mirgliotta jumps in to stop the fight. Brenneman is vehemently protesting his decision. Replays confirm the stoppage could have been ruled premature, but it doesn't matter now.

Mitch Gagnon vs. Walel Watson

Round 1: Josh Rosenthal oversees the action. Gagnon misses with a looping hook, and Watson pumps his jab in response. Watson leaps in for a superman punch, but it misses and a Gagnon counter left floors him. What a shot. Gagnon pounces and takes his back in a scramble. Gagnon levels Watson with unanswered punches before sinking in a rear-naked choke. That's it. Complete domination.

Seth Baczynski vs. Simeon Thoresen

Round 1:"Big" Jon McCarthy is our referee for this welterweight bout. Baczynski catches Thoresen with a left, but the Norwegian answers right back. Both fighters staying active early, looking for their range. Thoresen locks Baczynski into a Thai clinch but can't get any work done, as the TUF alum powers his way out. Thoresen nails Baczynski with a straight right, then follows up with a switch kick. Baczynski circles and Thoresen walks forward pawing out his jab. Thoroesen catches a finger to the eye during a flurry. A smattering of boos rain down during the break, but the action picks back up quickly. Baczynski eats a right hand and fires back a short left hook that rocks Thoresen. He crumbles to the canvas and it looks like he's out. Baczynski swarms and this one is over.

Jimmy Hettes vs. Marcus Brimage

Round 1: Our referee for the opening FX bout is Yves Lavigne. A pair of stiff right hands tag Hettes, who eats the shots and circles away. Hettes ducks under a punch and shoots in for a takedown, but it's stuffed. Hettes charges forward and nails Brimage in the nether region with a kick, but Brimage just shakes it off. "The Bama Beast" connects with a flurry, then drops Hettes by kicking out his back leg. Hettes pops back up only to eat a huge right hand and return to the canvas. Brimage swarms with punches but Hettes ties him up inside his guard. Brimage wants none of it and stands back up. Brimage is headhunting now. Hettes finds his mark with a short shot, and two trade several flurries. Brimage is slowing down but still connects with a stiff left hand. Brimage catches Hettes again with another right hand. And another, as the round comes to a close.

Round 2: Brimage has a small cut over his left eye. Hettes misses wildly with a head kick, and Brimage briefly takes his back in the ensuing scramble. Brimage is throwing everything he has into his punches. Hettes slips a looping punch and drags Brimage to the mat, landing in guard. Brimage eats a short elbow, nearly gives up his back, then frantically scoots out the back door to return to his feet. Hettes connects with a powerful jumping knee and follows by dragging the fight back to the ground. Hettes seizes Brimage's back and slaps on a body triangle. Not a good spot for "The Bama Beast." Brimage breaks out of the body triangle and tries to stand back up, only to find himself back in the same position seconds later. Hettes staying patient, slowly working for the choke. Brimage sweeps and explodes back to his feet. A minute remains in the round. Brimage charges forward and connects on the back end of a combination. Hettes slips a punch and answers with a counter that lands flush. Brimage charges forward for one more flurry as the horn sounds.

Round 3: Final round and this fight is likely still up for grabs. Both men touch gloves and we're off. Brimage backs Hettes up with a combination before connecting with a series of leg kicks. Brimage, noticeably slower with his flurries, is still throwing punches with reckless abandon, but nothing seems to be landing flush and Hettes is just walking through everything. Hettes pushes forward and half-heartedly shoots for a takedown, but it fails. Brimage misses wildly and eats a hook for his troubles. Brimage sprawls to avoid another lethargic takedown attempt and responds with another flurry. A leg kick spins Hettes around, and the urgency starts to pick up. Hettes yells something to Brimage as the two men trade one last wild exchange.

Marcus Brimage def. Jimmy Hettes via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Sean Pierson vs. Lance Benoist

Round 1: Josh Rosenthal oversees the action. Benoist misses wildly right off the bat. Pierson briefly initiates the clinch but can't land anything and the two retake the center of the cage. Pierson answers a leg kick by flooring Benoist with a straight right. Benoist pops back up and Pierson holds him against the cage but can't follow up. Benoist seems to have recovered and fires another leg kick out. Pierson catches it and drops him with a left hand. Pierson greets Benoist on the mat with a huge looping left, but quickly finds himself fending off an armbar from guard. Pierson works out of trouble and stands back up. Pierson eats a punch and responds with another big left hook, and Benoist seems to be in trouble. Benoist is visibly tired but again Pierson fails to follow up, and the two men end the round in the middle of the Octagon.

Round 2: Pierson backs Benoist up with a combination to start the second fame. Benoist works forward, then shoots in but is reversed and taken down by Pierson. Benoist patiently climbs back to his feet, but thus far it's all Pierson, who charges forward with another flurry. A straight left dazes Benoist, who nonetheless continues to push the pace. Benoist launches forward and connect with a combination, his first significant offense of the round. Pierson paws forward with his jab and lands a right cross. Thirty seconds left and Pierson changes levels, only to be stuffed.

Round 3: Benoist opens the final round on the aggressive, though none of his punches land flush. Benoist pushes forward with a double jab, and another. Three minutes left and the pace has slowed significantly. Benoist caps an exchange with a strong right hand that finds its mark. Pierson eats a jab and responds with his own. Benoist slips a punch, steps back and connects with a right hook. Another wild left hook stumbles Pierson and Benoist smells blood. Benoist unloads a salvo against the fence and Pierson crashes to the mat. Benoist jumps all over Pierson. This one may be stopped. Pierson valiantly ties up, but loses his back and Benoist nearly sinks in a choke. Thirty seconds left and Pierson somehow squirms out. The bell sounds with both men back on their feet. Wow, what a finish.

TJ Grant vs. Evan Dunham

Round 1: Dan Miragliotta is our referee. Dunham, the southpaw, finds his range early with his right hand. Grant responds with a leg kick followed by a right hand. Both men trade combinations, with Dunham tagging Grant repeatedly across the jaw. Grant just eats the shots and circles away. Good pace going so far. Grant connects with an awkward head kick after a collision. A bloodied Dunham grits his teeth and pushes forward. Grant initiates the clinch and lands a jarring short elbow against the fence. Another shot lands flush and Dunham squirms out, changing levels and powering Grant to the ground with a double leg takedown. Thirty seconds left and Dunham can't do anything with his poisiton.

Round 2: Dunham misses wildly with a flurry and head kick to open the round. Grant blasts Dunham with a straight right but immediately eats a stiff counter. Grant exits the clinch with a huge knee and follows with another straight right. Wow, Dunham is gashed open on his forehead but he's still game. Both men just stand in the pockets and trade crazy flurries, each connecting solidly. A red stripe of blood is pouring down the center of Dunham's face. Again both fighters trade wild combination but neither seems fazed. Dunham drops down and drags Grant to the mat, but it's short lived. The horn sounds and Grant is covered in Dunham's blood. Furious action in that round.

Round 3: The cut on Dunham's head is huge -- about six inches long -- and still oozing blood, but Dunham doesn't seem to care as he runs in a greets Grant with a salvo of punches. Another exchange and a hunk of vaseline flies off Dunham's forehead, unleashing a cascade of blood pouring down his face. Grant connects with a left hook on his way out of the clinch, but Dunham responds with a combination. Amazingly, Grant's pace has slowed and Dunham seems fresh as a daisy, aside from the river of blood on his head. Dunham charges forward connecting with looping shots, ending with a body kick. Grant defends a takedown and retakes the center of the cage. Grant uncorks a one-two then ducks under a straight punch. Another furious exchange ends with a Dunham head kick nearly taking Grant's head off. Dunham changes levels and bulldozes Grant to the mat. Dunham frantically tries to work his ground and pound, but the horn signals the end of the round. Hell of a fight.

T.J. Grant def. Evan Dunham via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28)

Igor Pokrajac vs. Vinny Magalhaes

Round 1: "Big" John McCarthy is the man in charge of the action. Magalhaes slips a punch and clinches immediately, eventually tossing Pokrajac to the mat, landing inside his guard. Magalhaes postures up and uncorks a right hand but fails to advance his position. Magalhaes postures up again and this time he succeeds, slipping into side control. Pokrajac quickly finds himself in a bad spot, defending an armbar, but he patiently sweeps and lands in top position. It's still not where he wants to be in with Magalhaes, so Pokrajac backs out and stands up. Magalhaes follows and soon finds himself pressed against the cage. Pokrajac sprawls away from a takedown attempt as the horn sounds.

Round 2: Pokrajac catches a leg kick and ties up Magalhaes, tossing him to the ground. Magalhaes throws up his legs for a triangle but he doesn't quite have it. Magalhaes transitions into an armbar from the bottom, flips Pokrajac and he has it! Wow, what a slick return for the TUF alum.
