UFC 154 Live Blog: Georges St-Pierre vs. Carlos Condit

This is the UFC 154 live blog for Georges St. Pierre vs. Carlos Condit, a welterweight bout at Saturday night's UFC event at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

St-Pierre, who has won nine straight fights, will square off against Condit, who has won five straight fights, in the main event.

Round 1: Sal D'Amato, David Therien, and Tony Weeks are the judges for this bout; Yves Levigne is the referee. St-Pierre is not wearing any sort of a knee brace. Condit gets perfunctory boos from the Bell Centre crowd for his introduction; St-Pierre gets an ear-splitting response for his introduction. They touch gloves and we're ready to go. St-Pierre pushes forward early. Condit throws occasional kicks. St-Pierre flicks a couple punches. One minute in. Lots of movement by both fighters. GSP with a low kick, Condit lands a jab. GSP shoots for a single leg and gets the takedown. Condit tries for a triangle but can't get it. GSP's in Condit's guard. Condit goes for an armbar, but Condit slips out. St-Pierre tries to pass guard and gets to half-guard. St-Pierre opens up with a flurry of punches. Condit staying active on the bottom. St-Pierre with a can opener. GSP postures up, and lands several punches. He's back in Condit's guard. Final minute. They're pushing quite a pace on the ground. GSP mixing his punches to the head and body. Round 2: Condit lands a right hand, GSP throws a couple head kicks. St-Pierre throws a big right hand. Condit looks like he's second-guessing himself. GSP with a solid jab. Condit connects with a combo. Condit lands a body shot. Two minutes in. Condit feints a knee and gets popped with a straight right hand for his trouble, which opens a cut on his nose. Condit whiffs on a spinning back fist and a knee. Condit pushes forward and walks right into a takedown. Two minutes left. GSP elbows Condit and re-opens the head cut. Condit is bleeding profusely. GSP continues to land punches and knees; Condit still looking for openings for a submission. Condit throws a couple effective elbows from the bottom, which slows GSP's pace. Round 3: Condit nails GSP with a huge head kick in the opening seconds. St-Pierre covers up. Condit is attempting to get St-Pierre's back and can't quite do it. St-Pierre is cut. St-Pierre is back to his feet. We've got a fight. St-Pierre throws a combo and scores a takedown. Condit is working for submissions from the ground. GSP's head is swollen over his right eye from where the kick landed. Condit is landing elbows from the bottom. They're back to their feet with about 90 seconds left in the round. Condit goes for a Kimura, the attempt ends up with GSP in Condit's guard. GSP moves to half-guard. Condit still working for subs. Round 4: Condit throws a pair of high kicks. St-Pierre responds with one of his own. GSP throws a combo and scores a takedown. He quickly moves to side control. This fight has simply some of the highest-level ground fighting I've ever seen in an MMA fight. St-Pierre is winning the positional battle but Condit is always moving and always working. St-Pierre has Condit badly cut open again. Condit works for a triangle and then a knee bar. Condit is once again cut bad. Condit goes for a triangle again. GSP postures out. Condit gets back to his feet with 1:15 left. GSP goes for a takedown, but Condit reverses it and end up in top position. St-Pierre manages to get out, though, and ends up in back in top position. Round 5: St-Pierre with a low kick; Condit with a high kick. GSP throws a Superman punch. Condit throws a low spinning back kick. GSP scores a takedown with a single leg, Condit spins out of it. GSP tags him with a big right hand. Condit still moving forward. Condit throwing single punches. Midway through the rounds. St-Pierre throws a few jabs and again lands a takedown. He's on Condit's half-guard. GSP gets Condit's back with about a minute left, but Condit rolls out of it. St-Pierre peppering Condit from top position.
