UFC 134 Live Blog: Rousimar Palhares vs. Dan Miller Updates

Rousimar Palhares vs. Dan Miller at UFC 134 in Rio.UFC 134UFC

: Rio pay-per-view at the HSBC Arena in Brazil.

Palhares (12-3) is coming off a kneebar win over Dave Branch in March. Miller (13-5) fought in March and lost a decision to Nate Marquardt.

Round 1: Palhares starts with a leg kick, and Miller, sporting a vicious farmer's tan, fires off a jab in response. Palhares clinches and pulls guard, almost immediately going for an armbar. Miller defends and adds some punches, then backs out of it and stands up. Palhares throws out a front kick that clips Miller's chin on the way up, and he goes staggering back. Palhares rushes in and picks him up for a slam. Miller looks to be in trouble, but recovers remarkably quickly and puts Palhares on his back before getting back to his feet. Two big looping rights by Palhares, and Miller blocks both, but still takes some damage from. Palhares fires during a Miller kick and drops him. Flurry of punches from Palhares, but then he stops, apparently believing he won. Herb Dean didn't wave him off, but he goes and jumps on the cage to celebrate anyway. Miller tries to run and attack him there, but Dean stops it to explain the confusion. After the restart, Miller drops Palhares. It's getting wild. Palhares ends the round with another slam of Miller. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Palhares.

Round 2: Palhares goes right back on the attack, stinging Miller with a punch and knee. He looks for a takedown, and Miller tries a guillotine that he has to give up on and eventually gets taken down. Ground-and-pound from Palhares and Miller turtles up. Palhares hears it from Dean for holding the fence for balance as he punches Miller. Miller tries a triangle off his back, but only gets slammed for his trouble. Palhares pours on the ground-and-pound with one heavy hook after another. Dean is taking a close look at the action, maybe thinking about stopping it. Miller is good and bloody now, and Palhares thinks about a leg lock before abandoning it in favor of punching Miller some more. Miller seems like he's just trying to survive the round, and he will. MMA Fighting scores it 10-8 for Palhares.

Round 3: Palhares is looking a little tired after all that punching. Miller just looks like he put his face in a blender. Nice, straight punching by Miller gives Palhares something to think about early on. That jab is keeping him at a good distance for Miller. Miller lands a nice left hook, right straight. Palhares may have run out of gas. He's trying to coast home now, from the look of it. Miller is doing most of the work, but I don't know if he has enough left to finish, whcih he definitely needs if he wants to win this. Palhares backs up and shakes out his arms, while Miller steals a look at the clock. Looping, lazy right lands for Palhares, but there's not much behind it. Ten seconds left. It's desperation time for Miller, but he can't dig deep enough to find any reserves. They embrace to end the bout, and the crowd approves. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 for Miller.

Rousimar Palhares def. Dan Miller via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-25)
