UFC 131 Live Blog: Jesse Bongfeldt vs. Chris Weidman Updates

UFC 131Chris Weidman

a middleweight bout on tonight's Spike TV portion of the card from the Rogers Arena.

Bongfeldt (15-4-1) fought to a draw against Rafael Natal in his UFC debut last December. Weidman (5-0) won his UFC debut against Alessio Sakara at UFC on Versus in March.

The live blog is below.

Round 1: They trade kicks to start off, with neither man connecting all that well. Bongfeldt lands a nice high kick that gives Weidman something to think about, but Weidman ties up and then tosses Bongfeldt on his head with a nice throw. Weidman working out of the open guard now, landing a few nice right hands before passing to side control. Weidman thinks about a kimura, but he gives Bongfeldt too much space and the Canadian recovers half-guard. Weidman has little trouble moving to north-south, and again he looks for that arm. Again Bongfeldt escapes and recovers half-guard, and again Weidman passes. Finally the loop ends as Bongfeldt scrambles up in the final minute. Weidman jumps in with a nice knee to the body and Bongfeldt grabs for a single-leg. This proves to be a mistake, as Weidman locks up the standing guillotine and squeezes until Bongfeldt taps.

Chris Weidman def. Jesse Bongfeldt via submission (guillotine choke) at 4:54 of round one.
