UFC 140 Live Blog: Claude Patrick vs. Brian Ebersole Updates

TORONTO -- This is the UFC 140 live blog for Claude Patrick vs. Brian Ebersole, a welterweight bout on tonight's UFC pay-per-view from the Air Canada Centre.

Patrick (14-1) is unbeaten in three UFC fights and last fought in April, taking a unanimous decision over Daniel Roberts. Ebersole (48-14-1) has been victorious in both of his UFC bouts this year against Chris Lytle and Dennis Hallman.

The live blog is below.

Round 1: Josh Rosenthal will referee this one. Both fighters give a slight bow to one another before we get underway. Patrick claims the center of the Octagon right away, and Ebersole doesn't take long to shoot for a takedown. Patrick defends well and they end up in the clinch up against the fence, where the fight slows way down. Ebersole keeps looking for that double-leg, and Patrick drops into a guillotine choke. It looks tight, but Ebersole gives the thumbs up as Patrick keeps adjusting his guard and squeezing with everything he's got. Ebersole rides it out and Patrick is forced to give it up before they both get back to their feet. Ebersole presses forward behind a hook followed by a digging body shot before they end up in the clinch again. The round ends with them thus engaged. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for Ebersole.

Round 2: Ebersole does everything he can to avoid engaging in the opening seconds. Seems like he wants a takedown or he wants to stay far, far away from Patrick. Patrick presses forward with strikes, and they're soon back in the clinch. Ebersole elbows his way out, only to immediately shoot back in. He can't get anything going, so he again elbows on the way out, only to again shoot back in. He's shutting Patrick's offense down, but not doing much else at the moment. Patrick finally shoves him off and goes to work with his hands. Patrick catches a kick by Ebersole and counters with a straight punch on his way into the clinch. The crowd grows restless. They free themselves in the final 30 seconds, and Patrick opens up with a couple left hooks that force Ebersole back. It's, sadly, the most action we've seen in this round. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for Patrick.

Round 3: Ebersole shoots in right away and Patrick defends, thinking about an anaconda choke, but it ends with him on his back and Ebersole in his guard with more than four minutes left to work. Patrick struggles to his feet, only to be slammed back down by Ebersole, who lands in side control this time. Patrick rolls and gives up his back. He gets to his feet, briefly, with Ebersole still stuck to his back but only one hook in. Patrick rises again and manages to turn into Ebersole. "This is terrible!" shouts a man who sounds like he's right in my ear somehow. The sentiment seems to be shared by the rest of the crowd. Patrick tries for an armbar out of the crucifix position, and then a D'arce choke, but can't finish either. He tries another such choke in the final seconds, but Ebersole's a little too savvy for that. At last, the horn sounds and it's over. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 for Patrick.
