Houston Alexander to Rematch James Irvin at Shark Fights 14

Houston AlexanderHouston Alexander revealed Thursday on Twitter that he will face James Irvin at Shark Fights 14 on March 11 in Lubbock, Texas.

The light heavyweight fight will be a rematch from UFC Fight Night 13 in April 2008 where Irvin knocked out Alexander with Superman punch in just eight seconds.

Last September at Shark Fights 13, Alexander (11-6) overcame a lopsided opening round to stop Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou with punches in the second. Alexander, 38, is best known for storming into the UFC in 2007 and brutally finishing Keith Jardine and Alessio Sakara. However, he would lose his next four UFC fights and was cut from the promotion after a loss to Kimbo Slice in December 2009.

For Irvin (15-8), the win over Alexander in 2008 was the final time his arm was raised in the UFC. Irvin has never been able to shake off controversy and his most recent fight last month was more of the same. In a bout at Gladiator Challenge, the fight was declared a no contest -- by special guest referee Ken Shamrock -- due to Irvin illegally kneeing his opponent in the head.

Matt Horwich will meet Danillo Villefort in the main event of Shark Fights 14. The last Shark Fights was available on pay-per-view, but this one will air on HDNet.
