A source close to the fighters' camps confirmed the booking to MMA Fighting on Thursday. The news was also reported by MMA Diehards.
Lowe (10-3, 2-1 UFC) and Lentz (20-3-2, 4-0-1 UFC) are both managed by Monte Cox – and sources told MMA Fighting that the booking was not the first proposed matchup between two of his fighters. In the UFC's lightweight division, Cox also manages Jacob Volkmann, Sean Sherk, Kamal Shalorus and Cody McKenzie.
Shalorus is booked for a fight with Jim Miller at UFC 128. Sherk last fought at UFC 119 in September and told MMA Junkie last month he doesn't expect to return until the summer. McKenzie, like Lowe, fought at the UFC's Fight for the Troops show a month ago and doesn't have a fight booked yet. And Volkmann fought at UFC 125 – the night he infamously "called out" President Barack Obama. He does not yet have his next fight booked.
The Lowe-Lentz fight makes its way onto the UFC's Seattle debut on a card that already seemed full with 11 scheduled bouts. The Fight Night 24 card, from Seattle's Key Arena, will be headlined by a light heavyweight bout between Tito Ortiz and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. The co-main event features former welterweight top contender Dan Hardy against Anthony Johnson.
Lowe is coming off a unanimous decision win over UFC newcomer Willamy Freire at the Fight for the Troops 2 show at Fort Hood last month. Before that, he beat Steve Lopez by split decision at UFC 119. His only loss the last three years came in his UFC debut, a knockout loss against Melvin Guillard at UFC 114 last May.
Lentz will have gone four years between losses when he gets into the Octagon against lowe – though he has a pair of draws since his last setback, going 11-0-2. He is 4-0-1 in the UFC with consecutive wins against Rob Emerson, Andre Winner and a controversial split decision win over Tyson Griffin at UFC 123. All five of Lentz's UFC fights have gone the distance.
UFC Fight Night 24 takes place March 26 and will air live on Spike TV. Though the UFC traditionally hosts an early spring card that leads directly into the season debut of "The Ultimate Fighter," Fight Night 24 instead takes place the Saturday preceding the Season 13 debut of the reality competition. TUF 13 begins on March 30.
