The possibility of the fight was first reported by MMA Fighting on Jan. 14, but it was put into doubt over the weekend after MMA Fighting learned the fight hadn't been signed. The delay apparently is coming from Silva's hesitance to face Stann, who he considers an American hero.
"I've got to talk to Wanderlei," White said. "He's not afraid to fight Stann. He thinks, 'Everyone will hate me if I fight this guy.' No one's going to hate you if you fight him, Wanderlei."
White essentially said he will convince Silva that fighting Stann won't change his status as a fan favorite.
"So, it's on?" a reporter asked White.
"It's on," he said.
Stann recently captured the biggest win of his career in a UFC 125 knockout win over Chris Leben. Silva hasn't fought since defeating Michael Bisping at UFC 110 in early 2010.
