UFC 126 Results: Demetrious Johnson Dominates 'Kid' Yamamoto

"Kid" Yamamoto, the Japanese star who was once among the best mixed martial artists in the world, made his debut inside the Octagon Saturday night against Demetrious Johnson at UFC 126. But the 33-year-old Yamamoto isn't the fighter he used to be, and he had no answer for the speed and impressive takedowns of Johnson, who won a one-sided unanimous decision.

The first round was fast-paced but not exactly action-packed, as both fighters were careful to keep their distance in the early going. Johnson showed off better speed and impressive takedowns, getting Yamamoto to the canvas three times in the second half of the first round, and that was enough for him to win it, 10-9.

In the second round Johnson showed off some impressive head movement in ducking under Yamamoto's punches, and Yamamoto seemed to be growing weary of Johnson's strikes. Johnson took Yamamoto down four times, and although Yamamoto got back up after all the takedowns and avoided getting hurt on the ground, it was another round for Johnson.

Johnson took Yamamoto down four more times in the third round, and also knocked him wobbly with a hard punch, and the fight ended, appropriately, with Johnson on top of Yamamoto on the ground. It was clear that Johnson would win a unanimous decision, and it was surprising that one judge scored it 29-28. The other two scored it 30-27 for Johnson, who improved his record to 8-1. Yamamoto falls to 18-4.
