Jon Jones Submits Ryan Bader at UFC 126, Earns Title Shot

Jon Jones accepts title shot against Shogun RuaJon Jones has proven that he's the best young light heavyweight in mixed martial arts. Now he'll get a chance to prove that he's the best light heavyweight of any age.

In a battle of the UFC's two best light heavyweight prospects, Jones dominated Ryan Bader at UFC 126, thoroughly controlling him in the first round and then forcing him to tap out with a guillotine choke in the second. Then, after the fight, UFC announcer Joe Rogan revealed that Jones will get the next shot at light heavyweight champion Shogun Rua, replacing the injured Rashad Evans.

"It's my time, I'm hungry and I'm going for it," Jones said after the fight.

It was a very good first round for Jones, who took Bader down, went for a choke in the early going and then spent most of the rest of the round on the ground on top of Bader. Jones showed off some of his flashy moves and athleticism, while just about all Bader did was hang on and survive. It was clearly a 10-9 round for Jones.

Early in the second round Bader managed to keep things standing, and he looked better than he had in the first. But Jones eventually got Bader to the ground, and he kept going at Bader's neck until he sunk in a guillotine from the choke, forcing Bader to tap at 4:22.

Rua stepped into the Octagon afterward, greeted Jones and said he respects his new opponent. Everyone has to respect Jones right now -- and UFC fans will be in a lather for this fight.
