Brendan Schaub, Stefan Struve Set to Clash

Heavyweights Brendan Schaub and Stefan Struve have verbally agreed to fight later on next year.

MMA Fighting confirmed the bout with sources close to it after Sportsnet.ca originally reported the news on Monday.

As mentioned in the original story, no date has been officially penciled in for the fight. It does appear that all sides are looking at one of the four UFC events scheduled for March or April 2011.

It was originally reported that Schaub was set to face Frank Mir in 2011, but that fight, which is one Schaub publicly asked for following his UFC 121 win over Gabriel Gonzaga, will have to wait.

A finalist on the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter, Schaub, 7-1, has quickly blossomed into one of the best young heavyweights in the UFC. The 27-year-old has won three in a row since losing to Roy Nelson in the TUF finale in December 2009.

Meanwhile, Struve is coming off a first-round TKO win over Sean McCorkle earlier this month at UFC 124. The 22-year-old Dutchman has won two in a row since also losing to Nelson in March 2010. Struve, 21-4, is 5-2 in the UFC.
