Strikeforce: Robbie Lawler KOs Matt Lindland

In a vicious display of striking in a fight that lasted less than a minute, Robbie Lawler brutally knocked out Matt Lindland on Saturday night's Strikeforce card.

It was the classic striker vs. grappler matchup, and Lawler's striking was far too much for Lindland, who never even got a chance to use his grappling. Lawler just came out swinging and landed a huge punch that knocked Lindland down, and Lawler then came down with one more hard punch on the ground that knocked Lindland unconscious.

In a classy display, Lawler stopped and gestured to the referee to show that Lindland was out cold. Things could have gotten much worse if Lawler hadn't stopped as quickly as he did. Lindland stayed on his back on the mat for several minutes, in an ugly scene reminiscent of the way Lindland stayed down on the canvas for several minutes after he was knocked out by Vitor Belfort last year.

Lawler improved to 18-6 and showed once again that he's one of the hardest punchers in the middleweight division. But the real story of this fight is that the 40-year-old Lindland, who fell to 22-8, simply can't compete against high-level opposition anymore. Lindland has been finished in the first round in three of his last four fights, and it might be time for him to retire.
