
Joseph Benavidez (12-2) stepped in for Brian Bowles to fight Wagnney Fabiano (14-2). Benavidez fell short August in his attempt to capture the WEC title from Dominick Cruz. Fabiano is 2-0 ever since moving down to bantamweight.

Round 1: Benavidez is off early with strikes from the outside, focusing on leg kicks and quick combinations. Fabiano draws blood from under Benavidez's left eye. Benavidez is owning the center of the cage early while Fabiano circles around the outside. Fabiano lands a hard kick to the body with about 90 seconds left in the round while Benavidez switches stances from southpaw to orthodox. Benavidez tries a takedown with :45 to go but Fabiano easily shrugs him off. Benavidez pulls away with a head kick that grazes past Fabiano's dome. The fighters close the frame with an exchange, but Benavidez's activity wins him the round 10-9.
Round 2: Benavidez drops Fabiano with a leg kick that takes out Fabiano's back leg. Fabiano gets up and tries for a takedown. Benavidez snatches a guillotine but Fabiano, a black belt, pulls free. Benavidez pulls away, lands a few punches and then goes for a Peruvian necktie submission. Fabiano looks in trouble for a moment, but Benavidez transitions to a guillotine. Fabiano is out again. Fabiano ends up on top but Benavidez sinks in another guillotine. He strains for the finish and Fabiano tries to escape, but this time, there's no pulling free and he taps out.
