The bout will feature two highly ranked lightweights seeking to avoid two-fight losing streaks.
Florian came out on the wrong side of a judges decision to Gray Maynard in a recent No. 1 contenders fight at UFC 118, while Dunham lost in a very controversial split decision to former champ Sean Sherk at UFC 119 in September.
Florian is 14-5 in his career while Dunham fell to 11-1 with his first career defeat.
Dunham-Florian had been the expected direction of the UFC, but due to injuries suffered by Dunham in the Sherk fight, there was a question as to his availability.
Now it seems that the Las Vegas-based fighter will be ready to go for a Super Bowl weekend return, though it appears the time frame is not yet completely locked in.
An addition of Florian-Dunham to UFC 127 would bolster an already-intriguing card.
In the main event, middleweight champ Anderson Silva will defend the belt against Vitor Belfort. Forrest Griffin will take on Rich Franklin in the co-main event, while light-heavyweight young guns Jon Jones and Ryan Bader are also scheduled for battle.
While the event has not yet officially been announced by the UFC, it is expected to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
